Cody gathered his dirty clothes and carried them to the basement. He hated having to separate and wash his own laundry.

Hearing his cell phone ringing all the way upstairs only added to his frustration. After dropping the soiled clothing on the floor, Cody ran to answer it. He was ninety percent sure that it was Tiera calling with another one of her meaningless threats.

“Hello.”

“Mornin’,” Tukey said. “How is me baby today?” Mi’kelle regarded her curiously.

“Terrible. I’m doing my own laundry,” he complained.

“Awww, ya poor man. Next time me will send dem tu de cleaners for yu.” He headed back down into the basement.

“Come tu t’ink of it, doan yu have a woman for dem t’ings?” Smiling weakly, Cody turned the washing machine on.

“Had a woman,” he corrected her.

“Me sorry tu hear dat. Me here for yu if ya ever want tu talk about it, OK?”

“OK. Enough about her. I’m trying to move on.”

“Good. Yu ca’an start by getting dressed and comin’ ta church wit’ me and me dawta.”

“Ahhh ... all right. You coming to get me?”

“Yes.” She nodded her head. “Wifey’s gone and ya already want me tu come tu ya house. Ya must want me or sum’t’ing?”

“Want? I mistakenly thought I had you.”

“Not yet. But yu ca’an, depending on how down ya are for me.” She threw out the bait.

Cody caught the hook, knowing that Tukey was trying to reel him in for something. Any other cop would have cut her off, but he chose to stay around and reap the benefits until he found out what she was up to.

Cody gave Tukey the address and informed her that he would be ready when they arrived. Tukey hung up.

“Mama’s got a boyfriend. Mama’s got a boyfriend,” Mi’kelle chanted happily.

“Oh be quiet. Us still have not discussed dem boys dat ya have calling.”

Mi’kelle hushed up and looked out the window.

“Yeah, dat’s what me t’ought,” Tukey said triumphantly.
